Kylie Marume is a multi-media artist based in South East London. Through loud nude bodies, her storytelling practice tackles identity by reflecting on personal experiences interweaving vulnerability and defiance. The bizarre and absurd depictions are in-your-face, humorous and confrontational. Primarily a painter, her practice includes digital works, writings and sculpture. She is currently pursuing a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London and is expected to graduate in 2025.

Artist statement:

My works are in defiance of what I did not want to conform to in my journey of self-image, self-awareness and acceptance. I reject the idea of compromising myself and presenting my body so it is acceptable.

I reject eurocentric beauty standards. I reject the white gaze. I reject conformity.
Through the symbiotic relationship depiction of female figures and nature, I believe nudity complements physical nature where bodies are presented in their raw and vulnerable state. The women in my works are often integrated with or paired with nature and I see them as comparable because of the exploitation and modifications they’re both subject to.
